Track Ledger

Log GPS data

Offline-first engineering GPS logger for mobile. Track Ledger records raw GNSS points for your paths—no smoothing. Set time- or distance-based sampling, pause and resume, then export from a track summary or the track list (CSV; GPX and GeoJSON with Premium). Use the Map tab to overlay tracks on OpenStreetMap tiles.

Tips & tricks

GPS quality

Wait for a good fix before tapping Start — check GPS accuracy on the recording screen. - Open sky beats urban canyons and dense tree cover. - Raw points are logged without smoothing — if accuracy is poor, you'll see it in the data (by design).

Sampling strategy

| Scenario | Suggested setting | |----------|-------------------| | Walking / hiking | Time: every 5–10 s | | Driving / vehicle survey | Distance: every 25–50 m | | Long battery life | Wider intervals (time or distance) | | Detailed path capture | Tighter intervals (more points, larger files) |

Battery

Enable Keep screen on only when you need to watch the screen continuously. - Wider sampling intervals reduce CPU and GPS wakeups. - Background recording (Premium) uses more battery — expected for continuous logging.

Field workflow

1. Create a project per job site or client. 2. Record with a consistent sampling preset per project type. 3. Export CSV in the field for quick checks; use GPX/GeoJSON back at the office. 4. Use Map tab to compare multiple passes on the same corridor.

Data hygiene

Rename tracks right after stop while context is fresh. - Delete test runs so you don't hit the free-tier ledger limit. - Premium users: set max completed tracks and when full policy before long field seasons.

Exports & GIS

CSV — columns include coordinates, time, elevation (as logged). Open in Excel, Python, R. - GPX — import to QGIS, Gaia GPS, or custom pipelines. - GeoJSON — drop into web maps or `ogr2ogr` workflows.

Premium worth it if you…

Need background logging while using camera or notes apps - Export to GPX or GeoJSON regularly - Want auto-stop at a fixed distance or duration - Record more than 10 completed tracks One-time purchase — no subscription.

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers about features, privacy, and billing.

What is Track Ledger?+

A simple GPS / GNSS track logger focused on data export and field use. It records your path as raw points with optional time- or distance-based sampling.

Is it a fitness or social app?+

No. There are no leaderboards, workouts, or social feeds. It's built for people who need reliable location logs and file exports.

Do I need an account?+

No. Everything is stored locally on your device.

Does it work offline?+

Yes. Recording and viewing saved tracks work without internet. The Map tab needs network to load OpenStreetMap tiles.

When does the app use my location?+

Only while you have an active recording (and optionally in the background if you have Premium and background recording enabled).

Why did recording pause when I switched apps?+

On the free plan, new GPS points are logged only while Track Ledger is in the foreground. Premium with background recording enabled continues logging when you leave the app.

What does "raw GNSS, no smoothing" mean?+

Points are saved as the device reports them. We don't apply a smoothing filter — you get the honest trace for your own analysis.

How many tracks can I save?+

Free: up to 10 completed tracks. Premium: unlimited (or a higher cap you choose in Settings).

What happens when the ledger is full?+

In Settings → Ledger you choose: automatically remove oldest tracks, or refuse new recordings until you delete tracks manually.

Which formats are free?+

CSV export and share are always available.

Which formats need Premium?+

GPX and GeoJSON.

Can I share a track to another app?+

Yes — use Share from track summary or Ledger. The system share sheet opens (Mail, Files, AirDrop, etc.).
